Wombat Progress

Sometimes Journal subjects become a larger piece to work on.
This happened with my next set of Journal prompts.
No. 23 - DOODLING
Now my kind of doodling is more like this....
No. 24 - DREAMS
This little wombat was enjoying his slumber when I snapped him and seemed perfect. I enjoyed it so much I had to make him larger.
No. 25 -  STENCIL
This challenge has definitely given my ego a couple of uppercut so far and this was another! I thought rather than a stencil I would do some leaf prints with ink.....ERK!
But putting out there the good with the NOT so good.......
I definitely prefer my pencils!
Ok the progress on my larger version of "Wombat Dreams"
I was accused today of drawing each hair individually lol! And I just about am.....but....call me crazy....... I LOVE it.....being one of my all time favourite Aussies adds to the delight!
I even have a little collection of them...
This is my reference photo.....I took it at a wildlife refuge called Jirrahlinga when we visited in Victoria.
He was so sweet but I definitely wanted to give him a burrow.....
Must fly.....

Calling it Done

Musk Lorikeets are done! I chose once again Pan Pastels background hoping to bring focus to the birds and tree....also a little white gouche highlights. I have had great fun with these sweet birds but am definitely not satisfied with the composition. However this is another lesson learnt and I am more than happy to revisit them again from a slightly different angle.

I am taking a little reprieve from the feathers and have started working on one of my all time favourite Aussies and some fur.
I snapped this little snoozing wombat in a refuge in Victoria. I decided to draw him in a burrow of his very own. So this is the company I shall be keeping for a little while. I have also sketched him in my journal and liked him so much I wanted to expand on it.
This week  I  took advantage of the end of year sales and came home with delicious new art supplies......ohhh the joy of brand new paper!
New sheets of paper........endless possibilities!

More Journaling

Journal prompts update.
No. 20 - NATURE
I thought the interaction between a delicate Dragonfly and a robust Sacred Lotus bud was a beautiful example of Nature.
No. 21 - WATER
Water droplets came immediately to mind.....and I need the practice!
No. 22 - BRIGHT
I chose the gorgeous and brightly plumed Bee eater bird. They are so stunning!
Another progress shot of Musk Lorikeets
Birdie bum is looking good!
I am pretty happy with the big tree at the back now....just a couple of shadows to work out and I am finishing off all the birdie friends.
When you just want to be out in nature a wander down memory lane helps.....

Have a lovely creative day.

Journal Update

I am a bit behind posting these prompts due to being laid low with Bronchitis.
No.17 - WILD
I think it's self explanatory. I chose it because I like to imagine these magnificent beasts out there in the wild doing their thing....without interference from the earths most deadly predator.....MAN!
No.18 - CALM
A paradox really..... watching busy little bees going about their work makes me feel very relaxed, peaceful and calm.
No.19 - TEXTURE
There are a myriad of amazing textures but one that I love is the hard casings left behind on the stem after a bottlebrush has flowered.....
So another 3 prompts done.....
Have a lovely weekend.

More Layers

And more texture has been added to the Lorikeets.  Oh my goodness the hollow in the tree proved a bit difficult and took me quite a while to get into the groove with it. I finally feel I am making some progress with it. I have been resisting the overwhelming desire to play with those cute birds until more work appears on the tree lol!
One of my journals is just about full.....
And it was time to think about a new one.....I had new $$$ in my art fund thanks to my Dear Daughter and family. After some thought I decided on the same journal that is currently my Nature Journal. It is so lovely for graphite and coloured pencil. If I want to add watercolour pencil work I can use good watercolour paper and paste it in the journal.....so very happy mail for me!
A few nature shots of mine to ease the soul...
